Watch Out!
This morning a Substack by Sasha Latypova came to my attention, where she claims Substack is limiting and removing some of her subscribers.
This morning a Substack by Sasha Latypova came to my attention, where she claims Substack is limiting and removing some of her subscribers. See below:
As many of my readers know, Latypova has been highly critical of the Covid-19 vaccines, but judging from the comments below her posts this does not in fact seem to be the reason, and I have not been able to pinpoint exactly what she refers to by “limiting and removing” subscribers or what precise reasons have been given. However, in the comments I saw at least one user pointing out how he was banned from Notes, apparently due to a Covid related note last spring.
I have taken a look at Substack’s content guidelines and not found any references there to alleged “misinformation”. Hopefully those are isolated incidents that have a rational and natural explanation.
However, given the constant growth of online censorship, I’d rather be safe than sorry, so I’ve just downloaded all my Substack content and subscriber list, and guess I’ll continue to do this on a regular basis. Platforms such as Substack can be expected to be under growing pressure from the censors, and despite Substack’s stated commitment to free speech, businesses can change hands at a short notice.
If any of my readers have come across similar incidents, please share in the comments.
PS: Having been active on Substack for over a year and a half, I’ve finally enabled paid subscriptions to this blog. I would be really grateful for your support. All my content will still remain open to all.
I also read what was expressed by Sasha with serious concern.
This may have nothing to do with any sort of SubStack action, but recently, on one of my articles (which I have a tendency to make numerous edits after the original publication), I was informed twice something to the effect that "the time limit has passed"......I was like "WHAT THE EFF???". After, I got this message initially I clicked the button again and same message was received. Usually, after being told twice I can't do something, I don't try again, but I did try again and mysteriously the article published on the 3rd attempt and this has not happened again since.....maybe it was a blip?
Regardless, I think it comes with the territory of communication that efforts will be made to reign in any forum that strays too far from the "elitist narrative", and SubStack is not immune to this, so it will be important for all to keep their antennas up to identify this if it happens in a pre-emptive sort of way, but at the end of the day, if folks outside of the "elitist ambitions" start diminishing in presence on SubStack, then that will be telling and I reckon it will mean - time to find a new place. I hope not because I invested in SubStack with the understanding the censorship was strictly "verboten" on the forum. So, this is something they need to nip in the bud if my investment is going to be worth anything in the future.
Regards,
BK
If Substack is actually unsubscribing people, that would be interesting-- I have tried to unsubscribe a couple substacks after reading a while and deciding they weren't for me... and I can't for the life of me figure out how. So now I just delete those from my inbox without reading, but I really wish I could unsubscribe and avoid the clutter! Is it even possible?
