Not Only Useless, but Harmful
The debate on masks against viral infection, a measure previously considered more or less useless, but which suddenly became wildly popular early 2020, has mostly been about their effectiveness. Despite several attempts no concrete evidence has yet been presented, proving facemasks prevent the transmission of Covid-19. More or less all observational studies have shown the effect to be small, if any, and the controlled trials in real-life situations undertaken so far have shown a minimal effect, which can even easily be explained away by other factors.
So, masks are not effective, but the question remains if they are harmful.
We already have research indicating how mask mandates negatively affect the development of children's mental abilities. The environmental harm is obvious and it has already been demonstrated how certain types of masks cause inhalation of dangerous substances.
Now, a new peer-reviewed study in Medicine, authored by Dr. Zacharias Fögen, indicates the matter is much more serious. Dr. Fögen compared Covid-19 case fatality in counties with and without mask mandates in Kansas, USA. He found case fatality to be 85% higher in counties with mask mandates than those without it. Dr Fögen's explanation for this is that if an infected individual wears a mask this causes deep inhalation of condensed droplets or pure virions, which are trapped in the mask, thus leading to higher viral load and worse outcomes.
Dr. Fögen's study is available here and his own article on the matter has been published by The Daily Sceptic.
